Second Sunday of Advent - Peace

The theme for the second week of Advent focuses on PEACE.  John the Baptist was famous in the ancient world and was popularly regarded as a prophet who told of the coming of the Messiah.  Jesus is referred to as the Prince of Peace and shares this gift with us so that we can help to bring peace to those in our daily lives.

The First Sunday of Advent - Hope

For Catholics, the new Liturgical Year commences with the first Sunday of Advent. The theme for the first week of Advent is HOPE. Blessed John Henry Newman reminds us “Advent is a time of waiting, it is a time of joy because the coming of Christ is not only a gift of grace and salvation but it is also a time of commitment because it motivates us to live the present as a time of responsibility and vigilance.”

The Season of Advent

The Advent season includes the four Sundays that precede Christmas. Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of the Lord. In this season, we recall two central elements of our faith: the final coming of the Lord in glory and the incarnation of the Lord in the birth of Jesus. The key themes of the Advent season are watchful waiting, preparation, and justice.
